New yearbook Altbayern in Swabia: stories from home!
The district office presented its 24th yearbook "Altbayern in Swabia", an event that celebrates the cultural and historical diversity of the Wittelsbacher Land. District Administrator Klaus Metzger praised the committed 14 authors who collected exciting stories and historical research. The book presentation attracted numerous those interested in home, including the mayor and archive nurse who are enthusiastic about the rich history of the region.
A highlight of the event was the exciting story by Regine Nägele about the engraver Michael Wenig, who had to leave his hometown Nuremberg in 1668 because of an unfortunate love affair. His copper engraving from Friedberg from 1701 is praised for its high accuracy. The bells of the pilgrimage church of Maria Birnbaum in Sielenbach were also discussed by Sabine Dauber and Klaus Peter Zeyer, who illuminated the eventful history of bells and their fate during the world wars.
Fascinating stories from the region
Six authors reported on Duke Ludwig VII of Bayern-Ingolstadt, which promoted the cities of Aichach, Friedberg, Rain and Schrobenhausen in the 15th century. Rainer Roos illuminated the scandalous stories of the abbey of the Cistercian monastery Fürstenfeld, while Toni Drexler humorously reported about wild clergymen who appeared at the fair with shotgun. Michael Ritter recalled the founding of the Catholic Burschenverein Sielenbach and the challenges during National Socialism.
The yearbook "Altbayern in Schwaben 2024" is available for 15.90 euros in bookshops and can also be obtained directly from the district office. Readers can look forward to a fascinating journey through the history of the region, which comes alive through the passionate contributions of the authors.
