Barbie reinvented: art, creativity and social crossing!
The most famous doll in the world, Barbie, is currently causing a sensation in Germany. In Fürstenfeldbruck, the exhibition "Barbie - in other words. The disenchantment of a princess" is presented in the Jexhof farm museum. The Herrschingen artist Michael Kühne shows his unique “trash barbies”, which come with recycled materials in a completely new form and with creative messages. The exhibition, which is open until February 23, 2025, invites visitors to see Barbie beyond the box of their classic representation. Kühne not only addresses the discovery of identity and individuality, but also current sociopolitical issues, such as gender identities. "Stand with you. Be satisfied with you. Sch ... on the likes", is one of the urgent messages of the exhibition, as well as the installation of the "Batwoman-Barbie", which Barbie slips into a new, exciting role.
Barbie attracts more than 4,000 visitors
At the same time, another exhibition in Bruchsal is enthusiastic, which bears the title "Barbie - between everyday life and glamor". This show shows the development of fashion that Barbie has accompanied over the decades and has been attracting about 4,000 visitors since its opening on April 22. The deputy head of the castle administration, Laura Baumann, is happy about the great interest, which may also have been influenced by the current hype around the movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The time collapse with the film start may have increased the number of visitors even further.
There, visitors can not only admire barbies, but also become active by bringing their own dolls with them and creating new outfits in the creative workshop. This special interactivity and the comprehensive collection of Bettina Dorfmann, which includes over 18,000 barbies, make the exhibition a must for every barbie lover and every barbie lover. Both exhibitions impressively show how versatile barbie can be interpreted today and offer a colorful variety of experiences for young and old.
