Rolf Schimpf, the legendary main commissioner Leo Kress from the ZDF crime series "The Alte", celebrates his 100th birthday on November 14th! For almost 40 years he chased criminals and captivated the audience with his sharp mind and his charming appearance. Now this TV star is celebrated with delicious food, white sausages and non-alcoholic wheat beer for three days. A festival that revives the memories of glorious times!

A sweet birthday

But how is the former star who now lives in a retirement home in the south of Munich? His friend Detlef Vetten reports that Schimpf's world has become smaller and he no longer likes to go outside. During a visit, Vetten brought a delicious Sachertorte, which Simpf could not resist - he immediately bit into the number 1! This sweet temptation shows that the old charm of the gentleman is still alive, even if it sometimes struggles with age.

Schimpf, who initially wanted to study medicine after the Second World War, finally found his passion in acting. He had been on stage and in front of the camera since the 1950s before taking on the role of Leo Kress in 1986. His performance made him known internationally and he won fans from Italy to Brazil. "Refuge, ingenious and always personable," praises Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann on the occasion of his round birthday.

A life full of memories

After its withdrawal in 2007 it became quiet. The loss of his wife Ilse 2013 hit him hard, and in 2023 he had to move to a cheaper senior residence for financial reasons. Despite these challenges, he remains unforgettable in the hearts of his fans. The ZDF plans to congratulate on his day of honor and show old episodes with him in the media library.
