Küchenmeister fulfills Christmas wish: Festmahl for the needy!
Mönchengladbach, Deutschland - On December 26, 2024, kitchen champion Sebastian Küpper and his helper Tanja Buchner prepared a festive three-course menu in the Caritakirche for homeless and needy people. Küpper, who collected donations for a social campaign during the Christmas season, offered a menu that consisted of a winter salad, chicken breast in herb sauce with red and pointed cabbage as well as crepe with orange sauce and vanilla cinnamon cream. Around 60 guests took part in the event.
The event took place in the Bruno-Lelieveld house day meeting, which is operated by the Wohlfahrt association. The participants were particularly pleased with the service because the food was brought directly to them, which means that they did not have to queue. Hildegard van de Braak, the Caritas area manager, and other employees took over the service. Walter (75) and Michael (64) praised the food as "cooked with love", and Friedel (63), a homeless person for a year, appreciated the opportunity to eat in community. The Wohlfahrt association is dependent on donations to help homeless people and offers a freshly cooked lunch every Thursday, for which volunteers are sought.
commitment to the homeless
An example of long -term commitment to homeless people is the heat room, which has been cooking for homeless every Sunday for 44 years. This initiative was launched in 1978 after the tragic freeze of a homeless person in Ulm. Liselotte Bertsch, who has been involved in the warming room since the beginning, will now take off your position after 25 years in financial responsibility. The heat room offers a flexible structure without official club status and is dependent on the support and donations of the community.
Originally, around 20 meals were originally prepared, today there are 40 to 50 guests per Sunday that are supplied by volunteer cooking teams. Renate Brugger coordinates the missions of the teams and organizes annual meetings. Due to a necessary restructuring, the Ulm municipal council plans to convert the DRK overnight home to create more privacy for the guests. This conversion is scheduled to begin in autumn 2023 and be completed by the winter of 2024/25. For the winter of 2023/24, however, provisional emergency accommodation is required.
For the heat room, the great willingness of the population is of essential importance in order to continue to cook for homeless and support, such as Action 100,000 reported.
In addition, Local click The public for the need for auxiliary actions during the Christmas season and the commitment of volunteers and Küpper and Buchner Actively contribute to improving the lives of people in need.
