Ehinger cinema in front of: only 12,000 visitors this year!
"The Ehinger forget the cinema!" Max Kienzle, operator of the Central Center Kino, is frustrated and sees the future of his company in danger. In its second year after the reopening, the cinema already has 25 percent fewer visitors. From 16,000 in the first year, the number fell to only 12,000 by October 2024, an alarming decline. Max warns: "If this continues, I have to close next year!"
The reasons for this are as alarming as it is understandable. The operator from Ehingen realizes that many simply no longer go to the cinema. The convenience of your own sofa, reinforced by the streaming boom in recent years, has made the cinema visit a rarity. "In the past, smaller films also went to the cinema, which went back," said Kienzle. In addition, there is a lack of blockbusters in 2024, which normally provide full cinemas.
Classic as the last rescue?
In an attempt to increase the number of visitors, Max Kienzle brings classics back to the large screen. A Harry Potter Film runs every Saturday to Christmas - the first part attracted 60 spectators last Saturday, a bright spot in dark times with average only ten guests at other ideas.
But time is urged! To keep your cinema alive, the operators need around 25,000 visitors a year. In view of the current figures, Kienzle sees Schwarz: "Ehingen without a cinema would be really sad." He aims to promote more funding, because money is not the problem - the urgently needed guests are missing!
