Over-indebtedness in Baden-Württemberg: Stagnation despite decline in the federal government
Shocking news from Baden-Württemberg! The number of people who are over -indebted remains an alarming high level. Around 620,000 people, that is about 6.7 percent of adult consumers, cannot meet their financial obligations. These worrying figures come from a current evaluation of the Creditreform business.
Although over-indebtedness has recorded a decline in recent years-in 2019 the value was still 8.2 percent-Baden-Württemberg remains relatively stable in the federal state comparison. The situation is only better in Bavaria at 5.9 percent. In contrast, people in Berlin (10.2 percent), Saxony-Anhalt (10.7 percent) and Bremen (11.8 percent) fight with even higher over-indebtedness rates. The numbers are alarming and highlight the financial challenges with which many citizens are faced with.
Germany -wide trends
At the national level, the evaluation shows that a total of 5.56 million people in Germany are over -indebted - a decline of 94,000 compared to the previous year. This is the lowest value since the beginning of the surveys in 2004, with an over -indebtedness rate of 8.1 percent. However, despite this positive development, the situation for certain groups, especially low -wage earners and single women, remains tense. High energy and food prices are heavily increasing and illustrating the continuing financial burdens.
The data for the "debtor atlas" were obtained from anonymized official registers, information from online retailers and other sources. The results are an urgent call to attention and show that the financial challenges in society continue to exist.
