Razor with 216 km/h on 50s Straße: Tuttlingen on alert!
A summer evening in the city of Tuttlingen would have given little sign of a dangerous offense until a vehicle on Donaueschinger Straße with shocking 216 km/h was recorded. This happened on September 17th at 8:45 p.m., where the speed limit is set at 50 km/h. According to Benjamin Hirsch, the head of the civil service and population protection department, the speed has set up a "sad record", because such high speeds were previously unknown in the urban area.
Especially Donaueschinger Straße, a former route of the B 311, has become a popular racetrack for speed lovers due to its straight and reduced traffic volume in the evening. Local residents have repeatedly pointed out the dangers that go from the nightly razors and their booming engines. These frequent "racers" seem to be in intensity especially at night.
technical challenge in traffic monitoring
Although the driver should have been confronted with an extreme speed crossing, the incident remains without consequences. A fine of 850 euros, two points in Flensburg and a three -month driving ban would be the regular penalties for such an offense. However, the driver is unknown and was not recorded by a mobile or firm speed camera, but by a static traffic monitoring device that normally serves for traffic planning.
These devices, also known as SDR traffic, side wheel army systems, are not primarily intended for the punishment of lawn, but collect data on traffic volume and speeds. Hirsch emphasizes that the city wants to use this data in order to analyze the traffic situation and, if necessary, take measures. Unfortunately, the information collected now demanded the need for better control on Donaueschinger Strasse.
measures to increase traffic safety
In order to meet the problem, the mobile lightning trailer on Donaueschinger Straße was recently positioned. So that the measure can become more effective, the city of Tuttlingen plans to use another, less striking mobile measuring device. Hirsch explains that fixed speed cameras are often less effective, since racers usually only drive more slowly in the eye of the flash and then accelerate again immediately.
The CDU parliamentary group of the Möhringen local council also comments on this topic and has submitted an application. It demands a comprehensive examination of "traffic law measures" from the city to contain the lawn and the associated risks. In their view, sporadic controls have shown little or no success.
The incident illustrates the challenges of traffic monitoring in urban areas in which speed limits are not observed in low traffic density. The situation on Donaueschinger Straße will probably continue to focus in the coming months, while the city of Tuttlingen is looking for solutions in order to stop the nightly razors in particular.
