Stuttgart lets Tuttlingen down: school renovations without help!

Stuttgart lets the municipalities in the Tuttlingen district down! The high costs for the school renovations, including the gigantic sum of 75 million euros for the high school in Tuttlingen, are not taken into account. The Ministry of Culture responded to the applicable legal situation to the request from the FDP member of the Landtag Niko Reith with a cold answer. The cities and municipalities have to take care of the financing, while the dispute continues for the costs between the municipalities.

The mayors from the district are frustrated! They demand more support from the country, but the ministry remains stubborn. Minister Theresa Schopper (Greens) shows no new solutions and emphasizes that the cities themselves are responsible for their construction and equipment measures. That means: Tuttlingen cannot contribute to the costs of the surrounding communities, but has to exhaust all sources of income before applying for grants from the country.

Mayor demand justice

The mayors are determined to fight for their rights! They argue that the principle of connexuality is violated - whoever ordered pays! Education is a national matter, so the country must also pay for the school renovations. A legal opinion was already submitted to the Ministry, and on November 20, the mayors have an appointment with Minister Schopper. "We are convinced that we are right," says Klaus Schellenberg from Wurmlingen, while the lawsuit against the country continues to be in the room.

Niko Reith sees municipal stability at risk and calls for a mediator role in the country to find solutions. He criticizes the ministry's inadequate answers and warns that particularly small communities could suffer from the financial burden. The announced increased state funds are far too low for him and do not offer a real way out of the misery.
