Sigmaringen district: 53 million euros in debt for 2025 planned!

A dramatic financial report for the district of Sigmaringen! At the district council meeting on Monday, District Administrator Stefanie Bürkle and treasurer Peter Hotz presented a 400 -page budget draft for 2025, which reveals the alarming financial situation of the district. The focus is on the mega project "Neubau Bertha-Benz School", which costs a whopping 113 million euros, of which the district itself has to pay 88 million euros. The promised funding from the country is a long time coming - the first payments are in sight for 2026 at the earliest. In order to close the financing gap, the district urgently has to accept 7.2 million euros in loans!

drastic borrowing and increasing debts

The plans are clear: the district wants to increase borrowing to shocking 53 million euros! This means a per capita debt of 390 euros for every inhabitant. This happens after the debts have been reduced almost to zero in recent years. At the same time, a drastic decline in liquid funds threatens that are to be used up to the legal minimum reserve of 4.3 million euros. The district levy, the largest source of income, is raised by five points to 36 points, which is intended to flush a total of 84.3 million euros in the coffers. Hotz described the additional two points as the "special levy clinic" - a bitter price that citizens have to pay!

The Kliniken GmbH Landkreis Sigmaringen also fights for survival! District Administrator Bürkle criticized the insufficient financing of the hospitals and described the clinic reform as "grossly negligent". The deficits of the clinics are enormously strain on the district households, and the SRH Clinic recorded a minus of 16.7 million euros in 2023. However, Bürkle is optimistic that the deficit can be halved by 2024. In order to cover the enormous need for financing, savings in the district administration are also announced - 3.1 places should be omitted in order to reduce the costs. Citizens are faced with an uncertain future, while the district is trying to master the financial challenges!
