The reason for the necessary detour is a recently set up construction site between two bridges, which is only about 200 meters long, but will still have far -reaching consequences for traffic.

The road construction measure, which is coordinated by the Freiburg regional council, requires a full closure of the route to the south. The detour route runs via federal road 31 and initially leads the vehicles to a detour of around four kilometers. Drivers who are traveling in the opposite direction are more lucky because they can drive past the construction site in a single lane. In particular, the departure to the B31 can be time -consuming for many drivers, as they often have to wait for a gap in traffic to get on the street.

In order to keep the traffic situation on the busy B31 under control, an intelligent traffic light circuit is used. This traffic light is controlled by a video camera that records the backwater of the detour transition at the junction to the B31. As soon as a certain backlog is reached, the traffic light is activated and the subsequent traffic on the B31 stopped briefly. In this way, the waiting vehicles can safely bend on the traffic, which should help reduce backlog.

Many drivers wonder why this renovation is necessary now, since the bridges were only extensively renovated some time ago. In the case of trial drilling, it turned out that the road surface between these bridges is also in need of renovation. Several cracks and inadequate patchwork are clear signs that quick action is required. Project manager Volker Hirt explains that it is an advantage to carry out the renovation of the roadway in parallel to the renovation of the bridge in order to avoid future construction sites in the same region.

The complete construction measure should only take a maximum of four weeks despite the significant detour routes. The total costs for the renovation work amount to just over 100,000 euros. A first indication of the start of the work was October 21, but the construction site in fact does not begin until Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, October 23. On this day, the first work to remove the dilapidated lane surface should begin.

The construction work certainly has many challenges, but the renovation also harbors the chance of improved street quality for the future.
