District of Schwäbisch Hall takes over Diak-Klinikum: A fresh start?

The Schwäbisch Hall district faces a significant step in health care: it takes over the financially battered Diak Clinic and becomes the sole carrier. The exciting decision is made as part of a district meeting on December 17, where the approval for the purchase is expected. The Diakoneo, the current carrier based in Neuendettelsau, has to separate from the deficit facility in order to escape an impending bankruptcy, such as Voice.de reported.

financial support and challenges

To make the purchase easier, the district receives a “dowry” of over 25 million euros, which is provided by the Evangelical State Church in Württemberg and the Diakoniewerk. Further financial grants come from the state to make the takeover as smoothly as possible. Despite this support, the situation remains tense, since the antitrust authority had to put the takeover of SRH, a planned partner, on hold due to possible dominant positions, such as SWR.de explained.

In the middle of these developments, there are internal tensions between the district and the SRH, since there are different opinions about the future management of the clinic. It remains uncertain whether the strengthening of the Diak Clinic will be successful in the long term due to the takeover of the district. Some employees express concerns about their future and a possible deletion of additional services. While the focus is on a smooth supply, the question also remains how the Christian profile of the facility can be preserved under the new conditions.
