Tiger mosquito in the march: Rottweil remains spared!
Rottweil, Deutschland - The Asian tiger mosquito, a feared disease carrier, spreads out and could soon also reach the Rottweil district! The health department warns: Even if the mosquito season is coming to an end, these little pests have already taken care of the next generation. Her eggs are cleverly hidden and survive the cold months in Central Europe. A shocking scenario that should alert every garden owner!
Nina Neißner from the Rottweiler Health Office explains that the tiger mosquito is extremely adaptable. After a blood meal, the female lays down between 40 and 90 eggs - and they are not simply thrown into the water! They glue on the edges of vessels, where they are protected from cold and drying out. A true genius! But the district is still spared, and that should stay that way.
How to protect your garden
The experts advise caution: "Pay attention to all vessels when cleaning up your garden!" Said Neißner. Rain barrels, flower vases and even bird drinks are potential breeding grounds for the tiger mosquito. Unnecessary vessels should be cleaned and safely stowed away. The following applies to everyone else: scrubbing and hot water are the best friends in the fight against the mosquito plague!
Use the edges with a brush and use water above 60 degrees - that's the motto! In this way, the eggs are mechanically removed and permanently damaged by the heat. Neißner emphasizes: "With these measures you can help you to keep the Rottweil district remains free of tiger mosquitoes!" A call to all garden owners to become active and prevent the mosquito plague!
