Massive effects: Strike in public transport meets Rottweil on Tuesday!

The United Service Union (Verdi) has proclaimed a strike in local public transport, which also affects the Rottweil region. This campaign is part of the collective bargaining in the context of the railway collective agreement (ETV) and has its roots in unresolved salary issues that affect numerous employees in several federal states. Next Tuesday, a decisive day for passengers, Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehr-GmbH (SWEW) will be on strike, as the Rottweil district office informs.

The strike will have a significant impact on the timetable, in particular on the rail connections of the Alemannenbahn. The lines 742 that connects Rottweil with Villingen and Bräunlingen are affected, as well as the line 743, which leads from Rottweil/Sigmaringen via Tuttlingen to Blumberg. A spokeswoman for the district office emphasizes that the effects of the strike are far -reaching and that a smooth operation cannot be guaranteed.

background of the collective bargaining

The strike is a reaction to the offer of employers perceived as inadequate. Verdi is currently negotiating wages and salaries for around 5,500 employees in six federal states, including Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In the context of these negotiations, Verdi demands an increase in table wages by 350 euros in order to adequately reward the employees and to combat the high fluctuation and the lack of personnel in the affected professions.

In the negotiations, the employers' association (AGVDE) shows little willingness to respond to the claims. An offer of over 3 percent wage increase from April 1, 2025 was considered inadequate, especially in view of the current inflation. The Verdi negotiator Andreas Schackert points out that the current financial situation of many employees requires competitive remuneration. In addition, the need to address the lack of personnel is emphasized, which is further tightened by high absenteeism and high fluctuation.

In order to counteract the impending personnel, the Verdi tariff commission is planning to carry out the first warning strikes in various companies in the industry from next week. The reprint also plays a role in the fact that the employers' association should rethink its offer.

In view of this situation and the continued discussions about fair wages, it remains to be seen which further steps are taken from both sides in order to reach an agreement. The next negotiations are scheduled for November 11, 2024.
