Finally! New elevator at the Waiblinger train station starts on Friday!
Travelers in the Rems-Murr district can breathe a sigh of relief: The new elevator at the train station in Waiblingen will be put into operation again from Friday, October 11th. After replacing the elevator system at track 6 and 7, which was started in May, the passengers can finally use the comfortable connection that previously lacked due to repairs and work on the emergency call. The rail spokesman confirmed that the necessary tests were successfully carried out, and explained: "An elevator must not go into operation if the emergency call does not work."
Although it was originally planned to complete the work by the end of September, delays when installing the emergency device caused a later commissioning time. In addition to the elevator on track 6 and 7, the other two lifts at Waiblingen train station, which lead to track 1 and between tunnels and forecourt, were also renewed. Together with the federal government, the railway invests around 640,000 euros in these improvement measures.
improved mobility for travelers
The absence of the elevator had serious effects for many travelers, especially for wheelchair users and people with restricted mobility. Instead of getting directly to the track, they often had to accept large detours. For example, passengers who wanted to drive the Mex13 towards Aalen only had to go to Schorndorf or Bad Cannstatt with the S-Bahn to switch there. This new development will make it easier for many travelers to travel.
The efforts to improve accessibility and mobility in the Rems-Murr district do not end with the commissioning of the Waiblingen elevator. According to an announcement by the Deutsche Bahn, further elevator renovations in the region are planned for the next two years, including the locations in Sulzbach an der Murr, Schwaikheim and Marbach am Neckar. Details on the respective schedules and the exact renovation work are currently being worked out, as a railway spokeswoman explained.
These steps to improve the infrastructure show the commitment of Deutsche Bahn to meet the needs of all travelers and to continuously promote mobility in the Rems-Murr district. The first successes are already visible when the elevator in Waiblingen has been restored, and further improvements are in the starting blocks. The current development has the potential to make everyday life easier for many people and to make the use of public transport more attractive.
