Wheelchair drama in Ravensburg: Mobi bus fails due to accessibility!

Ravensburg, Deutschland - In Ravensburg it is bubbling! The new "Mobi" call bus should be a milestone for mobility-but for Martin Reichle, which is dependent on an electric wheelchair, the joy quickly became frustration. Because his wheelchair is just too big and too heavy for the new on-demand offer! The city had promised that wheelchairs can be transported, but reality looks different: wheelchairs over 160 kilograms cannot be transported, and the ramp can no longer be folded if it is too big.

"Participation for everyone looks different," complains the Ravensburger. The city administration had offered a barrier solution, but the implementation remains behind the expectations. The Disabled Equality Act stipulates that transport must be accessible and usable for people with disabilities - a prerequisite that is not met here! City spokesman Timo Hartmann admits that accessibility was an important concern right from the start, but the technical restrictions on the vehicles make the promise to the farce.

a ray of hope from North Rhine-Westphalia

An example of how better is possible, the city of Höxter delivers in North Rhine-Westphalia. Here, electrical wheelchairs with a total weight of up to 350 kilograms can be transported in the vehicles, thanks to a well thought -out folding ramp. Martin Reichle has had the experience that there is another way: "It works well in Höxter and they have no wider streets." While Ravensburg steps on the spot, the way to real accessibility could be so easy.

The city of Ravensburg has agreed a return option for the vehicles, which means that other models may be considered in the future. Hartmann emphasizes that the safety of passengers has top priority and that the selection criteria for future vehicles are checked again in order to also enable the transport of e-roll chairs. But the time is urging: The “Mobi” is still in the three -year test phase, and whether it is still rolling through Ravensburg in 2026 remains uncertain. For Martin Reichle, it could mean that he can never ride - a painful reality for many who rely on mobility.
