Corona shock for triathletes: Ferdinand Nonnenbroich canceled Ironman World Cup!
Kona, Hawaii, USA - dream burst! Ferdinand Nonnenbroich, the 56-year-old extreme athlete, faced his greatest challenge-the Ironman World Cup on the Hawaii paradisiacal island. The anticipation was huge, but now he has to fight with a bitter setback: a positive Corona test broke his participation before the start on October 26th. In an emotional message to his supporters, Nonnenbroich describes his frustration: "I can't say much more.
The excitement was noticeable while Nonnenbroich prepared for the event. The race documents were in the hotel, the bike flashed ready for the race. Instead, he now had to watch other athletes step on the stage that mean so much. "I not only suffer for myself, but also for all those who brought me here with so much dedication," he says and has to admit with a heavy heart: his great chance was thwarted by the virus.

Nonnenbroich admits that he has to digest this defeat first. "Don't be angry if I am submitting for the next few days. I have to swallow that first," explains the disappointed athlete. With weeks of intensive training, which included up to 17 hours a week, he had given everything to qualify for this event. Now there is only hope for participation next year to maybe realize his dream. The Ironman World Cup is considered one of the greatest challenges in triathlon, and Nonnenbroich is determined not to give up.
