Christmas market in Rastatt: Benches away - passers -by are disappointed!

The Christmas magic in Rastatt is just around the corner! But the anticipation is overshadowed by an unexpected move: the popular benches on the marketplace have disappeared! The city administration removed the benches on Monday to make room for the Christmas market stalls and the technical equipment.

The citizens are outraged! The new seating, which were only set up in spring, ensured a cozy atmosphere between the historic town hall and the Catholic town church of St. Alexander. Now the benches have to go into the winter break, and many passers -by are surprising about this decision. "Why not just integrate the benches in Budendorf?" Asks a reader. However, the municipal press spokeswoman Heike Bornhäußer explains that this was not possible due to the necessary electricity and water pipes. Instead, the round benches are stored at the building yard, while some benches are set up on paradise during the market. "They are back at the end of January," promises Bornhäußer.

Christmas market with new attractions

The Christmas market starts on November 21 and moves to the city center until December 23. Around 30 dealers offer a variety of delicacies and Christmas gift ideas. In order to raise the mood, the Elvis imitator Eric Prinzinger and his band will appear on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. City marketing, however, rejected the idea of a ferris wheel in the castle courtyard because the approval of the state castle administration was missing.

There are also changes for the weekly market: it will be moved to Obere Kaiserstrasse from November 12th, and the bus lines will be diverted to enable the Christmas market to set up. Parking is not allowed on market days in Oberen Kaiserstrasse. From January 7th, the weekly market will take place again on the marketplace. Preparations for the big festival are in full swing, but the absence of the benches ensures mixed feelings among the rattler!
