Ostalbkreis in financial need: budget deficit threatens municipalities!

In the Ostalbkreis, one of the most important counties in Germany, there is a risk of a financial disaster! The district budget for the coming year is estimated at shocking 1.1 billion euros, but the prospects are dark. The district administration plans a drastic increase in the circular levy, which would have to increase to 40.5 percent - a record value! But the municipalities cannot afford this burden. Instead, the increase is limited to 5.15 points, which leads to an alarming deficit of 17.9 million euros.

The reserves of the circle have melted on a dangerous minimum of only 2.5 million euros. According to the treasurer Karl Kurz, liquidity deteriorates dramatically. The circle can only stay afloat with account loans and records a minus of 140 million euros in the checking account, which could increase to terrifying 223 million by 2028. The uncertain budget situation is exacerbated by a lack of orientation on the part of the country, since the calculated income is based only on experience and are considered unreliable.

Is the legislator to blame?

Despite the record-breaking tax revenue, municipal households are not sufficiently financed. The legislator provides additional expenses that burden the circles and municipalities. In short warns: "We are facing a storm that requires great effort." The situation in the Ostalbkreis could soon become a real financial tsunami if measures are not taken immediately. Time is pushing!
