HORNISGRIND: Green light for Germany's highest wind turbine!

Hornisgrinde, Deutschland - Soon the wind farm will experience a significant expansion on the hornet grind. After seven years of intensive planning and preparation, the official application for a second wind turbine is now available, which in the future should deliver environmentally friendly electricity for up to 4,600 households in Ortenau.

The application was submitted to the responsible district office, represented by Matthias Griebl from Windstrom Schwarzwaldhochstraße GmbH and the Mittelbaden Elektrizitätswerk. The handover took place in the presence of District Administrator Frank Scherer, who emphasized the progress in the use of wind energy in the district as part of a public event.

The long way to approved

The preparations for the application included a variety of discussions, extensive reports and adjustments to the plans based on the interests of the residents. "After so many efforts, I am pleased to be able to submit the application for immission protection permit," said Griebl. Bernhard Palm, board member of the Mittelbaden Elektrizitätswerk, described the process as a marathon run in which perseverance and transparency were of great importance for the citizens.

The outgoing district administrator Scherer emphasized that 48 wind turbines were approved during his term in office, which already supply 71 percent of households in the district. This shows the growing importance of wind power in the region, which was also recognized by Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

Ministerial Director Michael Münter, head of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Industry, was also present and explained the country's measures to promote wind energy in the southwest. "We are working hard here to reduce the existing hurdles," says Münter. The construction of the new wind turbine on the hornet grinds benefits from these efforts.

sustainability in focus

With the new wind turbine, not only the electricity requirement in the region is better covered, but also an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. The existing Hornisgrinde wind farm, which was put into operation in 2015, already reduces CO2 emissions by around 4,000 tons annually and supplies 2000 households with renewable electricity.

As part of the event, the importance of protecting the landscape and the existing wind turbines was also discussed. The first state official Nikolas Stoermer emphasized the need for a balanced interaction of various interests in order to promote the expansion of renewable energies and at the same time to protect the landscape.

Last but not least, this application shows that it is possible to reconcile nature conservation with the production of renewable energy. The expansion of wind energy on the Hornisgrinde is therefore a significant step towards sustainable energy supply, from which future generations will also benefit.
