Warning strikes in Baden-Württemberg: Over 100,000 employees demand more money
Stuttgart, Deutschland - In southwestern Germany it is bubbling! Over 100,000 employees from the metal and electrical industry have participated in massive warning strikes in Baden-Württemberg. IG Metall reports that the employees demonstrate for a salary increase of 7 percent and an additional remuneration of 170 euros for trainees and dual students. The pressure on employers is growing, because the protests show that the workforce is no longer willing to satisfy themselves with less.
On Tuesday morning, 4,100 employees at Porsche in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen have already settled the work. The employees were also active at ZF Wabco in Mannheim and John Deere, with 150 and over 1,000 participants. In Tübingen, Zell im Wiesental, Rastatt and Karlsruhe, other rallies took place, in which more than 650 people raised their voice. In Pforzheim, 80 colleagues formed a chain of people to underline their demands.
a clear signal of solidarity
Barbara Resch, the district manager of IG Metall, emphasizes in Stuttgart that the employees are clearly behind the union's claims. "It is high time that colleagues have more money in their wallets to boost consumption. This clear signal gives our demand for a tailwind," said Resch. The collective bargaining round is crucial for around one million employees in the region, and after several negotiation rounds ended without agreement, the struggle for better conditions continues.
The IG Metall declared the warning strikes after the end of the peace. The last round of negotiations in Kornwestheim in September and another at the end of October did not bring any rapprochement between the parties. The employees impressively show that they fight for their rights and are willing to go on strike.
