Rostock: Germany's most unfortunate city - a wake -up call for politics!

Rostock, the city on the Baltic Sea, has set a sad record: It was named the most unfortunate city of Germany in the 2024 Skl in 2024! With a lucky index of only 6.36 points, Rostock ends up in the last place, behind Karlsruhe and Wiesbaden, both of whom reach 6.43 points. The survey, which was supported by the University of Freiburg, asked the rustockers the crucial question: "How satisfied are they currently - all in all - with their lives?" The answer was clear: below average life satisfaction!

Rostock's quality of life in focus

The Rostockers are not only unhappy, but also poor: the lucky index is below the German average of 6.72 points. While the city shines in areas such as recreation areas and childcare, the low prosperity blows the picture. Almost 60 percent of households are one -person households - a negative record! The city has the lowest proportion of households with children among the 40 largest cities in Germany.

Political representatives are alarmed! Julia Kristin Pittasch, chair of the FDP parliamentary group in the Rostock citizens, calls for a targeted growth strategy to end the economic standstill. It criticizes the lack of large family apartments and building land for single -family houses, which means that families Rostock turn their back on. Sybille Bachmann from the citizens also sees action and criticizes the lack of a clear vision for the city. "If you don't have a goal, you will not arrive anywhere," she warns.

EU Commission is different

But not all are pessimistic! A report by the European Commission shows a different picture: Rostock is one of the most livable cities in Europe in 2023, with 94 percent satisfaction among the respondents. In a survey, the Hanseatic city landed in eighth, only behind Leipzig, which took fourth place. The ranking of factors such as infrastructure, healthcare and education. A contradiction that confuses the Rostocker even more in their dissatisfaction!
