In the heart of Karlsruhe, a new management plan for the important bird sanctuary "Rheinniederung Karlsruhe - Rheinsheim" is being developed! This area is not only part of the Europe -wide Natura2000 protective area network, but also a habitat for numerous rare bird species. The draft of the plan is now available and is eagerly awaited by those responsible for the Karlsruhe regional council. Specific goals and measures for the preservation and development of bird populations are formulated here!
From November 22 to December 20, 2024, interested citizens have the opportunity to view the draft in the Karlsruhe Regional Council and the Linkenheim-Hochstetten municipal administration. If you want to bring your opinion, you can do so by January 19, 2025! It is important that statements refer to the relevant areas in the bird sanctuary. Citizens are called to submit their suggestions and suggestions to actively shape the future of this unique natural area!

The approximately 5,000 hectare area is a real paradise for birds! Rare species such as the kingfisher and the turning halls breed here, while the characteristic chants of the throttle tube singer meet the air. Birds of prey such as the black kite and the wasp buzzard can also find their habitat here. In the winter months, the area becomes a rest area for numerous migratory birds that settle here. The variety of flora and fauna makes this bird sanctuary an indispensable part of the European natural heritage!
