Oststadt: Finally clarity! Durlacher Tor will be redesigned by 2027
Durlacher Tor, 76131 Karlsruhe, Deutschland - After waiting for years there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for the Durlacher Tor in Karlsruhe! A new schedule for the redesign of the area was presented in a crucial meeting between the city administration and the citizens' association Oststadt. Mayor Bettina Lisbach (Greens) and the head of the horticultural office, Doris Fath, set the course to finally transform this long unsightly construction fallow into an appealing cityscape.
The plans stipulate that Bernhardusplatz will be completely completed by spring 2027. The redesign is to be realized in two construction phases. The first section begins in mid -March to early April 2025 and includes the work north of the stop area. The second, larger construction phase is planned until April or May 2025, followed by a start of construction in September 2025. The city administration has promised that the work will be used for about a year and a half to create trees, water areas and an impressive staircase in front of the St. Bernhard church.
No crossing between the north and south side
But not everything runs smoothly: for security reasons, there will be no footpath between the north and south side of the Durlacher gate. The city checks the possibility of a footpath in the direction of the Oktave gastro operation, but the crossing of the construction site area required by the citizens' association remains excluded for the time being. The people in Karlsruhe have known the Durlacher Tor for a decade, especially as a construction site, since the tunnel drill for the U-Strab tunnel started its work in November 2014. Now the hope is great that the long waiting time will soon end and that the Durlacher Tor will become a real eye -catcher!
