Karlsruhe will be a new home for rare lynxes - only chance for the species!

In the Karlsruhe Oberwald, a release enclosure for lynxes is created, which includes an area of around 5,000 square meters. This special project aims to secure the population of the rare carpathian lynxes in Central Europe. In spring, the first lynx born in Zoos are to move into the enclosure. From Karlsruhe it is sought to make lynxes on Europe to stabilize the species in nature in the long term.

The newly built enclosure is the second of its kind in Germany. A similar enclosure already exists in Hütscheroda, Thuringia. Lynxes are very rare in nature in Germany, which underlines the need for such projects. In selected zoos, “reserve populations” are therefore bred to support the release measures.

The establishment of this release convey is an important step in the struggle for the preservation of the Carpathiana. Several zoo and nature conservation organizations are behind this initiative to contribute together to secure the lynx population. Like meka.de , the project aims not only in Germany, but also in its natural environment.

The Badische Zeitung emphasizes that such enclosures are of great importance in order to promote the urgently needed biodiversity in the region and at the same time to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining endangered species.

Overall, this project shows how important measures to protect endangered animal species in cooperation with various actors can be realized in order to ensure a sustainable survival of the Carpathian lynx.
