Mulled wine prices explode: Politics demands price lid for enjoyment!
Neubrandenburg, Deutschland - In the frosty Advent season, it is becoming increasingly expensive for mulled wine lovers. The average price for a glass of mulled wine is now almost five euros and can even exceed seven euros in some cities. These price increases are the topic of the new left-wing boss Jan van Aken, who demands a price lid of 3.50 euros for mulled wine on the Christmas markets. Many families are faced with the challenge of bearing the total costs for a market visit, which can quickly increase with deposit fees of up to ten euros for a mug of mulled wine, such as the Nordkurier reported.
price adjustments in different cities
Despite these increasing prices, mulled wine prices in many large Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg remain largely stable. A survey has shown that the prices remain mostly unchanged, except in Freiburg, where the price was raised to 4.50 euros. This is an increase of 50 cents compared to the previous year, as reports the SWR . In Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and other cities, the price comparison remains stable, with a deposit of three euros for the glasses. In Constance, a special changeover to reusable dishes will also take place in 2024 to promote sustainability.
The survey results show that many Christmas market operators try to keep the price increases as low as possible, despite increasing costs for personnel and purchasing. Van Aken's political demand could, however, encounter resistance, since the operators are also faced with increased stand fees. The pressure on the stand operators to make the costs transparent could possibly further restrict their margins.
