Bruchsal celebrates: Old BR license plate returns!

Bruchsal, Deutschland - A historical moment for Bruchsal! The district council of the district of Karlsruhe decided with an overwhelming majority of the return of the old license plate BR. This license plate was in use until 1972 and is now returning after a long fight - the third attempt finally worked! Bruchsal citizens can be happy, because soon they can exchange their license plates for the nostalgic BR, provided that the regional council gives its okay, which is considered safe.

The mayor Cornelia Petzold-Schick (Greens) is overjoyed! After two failed attempts in 2013 and 2018, she was finally successful. "I feel connected to the region with a BR license plate," she enthuses. This return is more than just a license plate - it is a piece of identity for the Bruchsalers who long for the old connection. "This is exactly what I find so important from democracy," she adds. But not everyone is enthusiastic about the decision.

opponent of the BR return

District Administrator Christoph Schnaudigel (CDU) has vehemently spoken out against the reintroduction. He described the license plate as superfluous and sees no compelling reasons for the return. Nevertheless, it recognizes the emotional meaning that the BR license plate has for many citizens. "We have other more serious problems," he says, but the citizens have spoken and their voices were heard.

The return of the BR license plate is expected to become a reality in the coming year. The district expects a rush to the registration office, so interested waiting times should plan. Mayor Petzold-Schick also wants to change her license plate-from "KA-BR-1515" to "BR-KA-1515". Bruchsal is one of the last counties that have the opportunity to recover old license plates after the laws have already been liberalized in 2012. The trend shows that more and more cities, such as Nagold and Ettlingen, are also striving for their own license plates to strengthen their identity.
