Auxiliary transport to Kovel: Altenboitzen shows heart for Ukraine!

On New Year's Day, Michael Haacke, the head of the Ukraine children's aid work, broke up with five helpers for an important auxiliary transport. The transport is the goal of the Ukrainian city of Kovel and includes a distance of 2,000 kilometers. In order to avoid traffic, the departure took place early in the morning. Six vehicles from old people's boars are loaded with food, sweets and textiles. Particularly noteworthy is the transport of two generators who are supposed to serve to support the water supply in Kovel after the mayor of Kovel had asked for help. Haacke plans to spend a total of eight days in Kovel.

Tanja Panova, a teacher and interpreter in Kovel, is pleased with the visit of the helpers. During her stay in Germany, she made many friendships. She recently celebrated her birthday in the circle of her teacher colleagues in Kovel. The temperatures in Kovel are currently 4-5 degrees, at night they fall below zero. The cost of living has increased, which means that many people can no longer afford some things. Despite the adverse circumstances, Panova expresses the desire for the end of the war and emphasizes that they are relatively well, although the conditions are challenging.

Humanitarian aid for Ukraine

The children's aid organization Ukraine e.V. has organized 10-11 aid transport since its foundation. In addition to food, the donations collected also include textiles, shoes, furniture and bicycles that are urgently needed. Support comes through numerous small collection points in Baden-Württemberg. A donated minibus is used for regional transports. The collected materials are packed in Bad Säckingen and loaded on 40-tonner. At the beginning, the 2,000 km long transport was carried out with rented vehicles; In the meantime, a reliable Ukrainian freight forwarder is used to transport the relief goods. The cost of such a transport is around 2,200 euros.

However, it should be noted that there have been considerable difficulties in importing and customizing relief goods in Ukraine since 2012. New import provisions of the Ukrainian government make the transport of humanitarian aid difficult, since an increased effort when packaging and loading is necessary to meet these new requirements. This is an additional challenge for the helpers who are constantly trying to support the needy people in Ukraine.
