60 Years Volksbad Heidenheim: A look at the eventful history!

Heidenheim, Deutschland - The city of Heidenheim celebrated several milestones in October 1964, including the 60th anniversary of the municipal folk pool. On October 16, 1964, the impressive building, designed by architect Philipp Jakob Manz from Stuttgart, was inaugurated. With the aim of serving future generations as a “large source of blessings”, this public bath was realized with the help of well -known industrial donors, the financial support of which covered the construction costs of an estimated 170,000 gold mark. The city not only provided the property, but also the management and the water free of charge.

The Volksbad offered various facilities such as bath cabins and a sweat bath in addition to a swimming pool. A little later around the corner, the 125th anniversary and 75 years of medium maturity and 50 years of high school are celebrated in the Hellenstein-Gymnasium. A solemn event in which the Mayor Elmar reminded the alumni of the importance of their schooling in a speech, while headmaster Albert Fetzer emphasized the connection between the history of the school and the city.

innovations and challenges in Heidenheim

The city of Heidenheim was at a turning point. The demolition work of the Brenz School led to extensive redesign in the area, including a new one -way street that was to improve traffic. Furthermore, the introduction of a new garbage fee statute led to heated discussions, since the existing fee models did not bring the desired success. From 1965, each household should have to pay a basic fee of one mark per month to prevent the growing deficit by wild waste disposations.

In the middle of these changes, the three sword fencers of the TSB Heidenheim, who took part in the Tokyo Olympics, were proud of the city. Paul Gnaier, Franz Rompza and Volkmar Würtz secured the respectable sixth place in the team competition. Despite the disappointment of the missed podium, they were viewed as positive advertising media for the city, while they received current reports from Heidenheim by airmail every day. Gnaier and Rompza returned home early, while Würtz stayed in Japan for a little longer.

A discussion about food prices also caused a sensation. Due to wage increases in the bakery industry, chief master Gebhard Klaiber promised a price increase for bread. In the meantime, the German Trade Union Confederation expressed concerns about the need for these increases, which led to debates among the citizens. A concerned housewife criticized the price increases for staple foods and questioned the justice of this development.

In the middle of all these economic and social changes, a smaller but interesting event also took place: Chancellor Ludwig Erhard, known as the father of the social market economy, bought three ties in a Berlin business. During a shopping spree, he took the opportunity to benefit from a discount of 30 percent and stock up with elegant ties in gray, blue and black. This everyday event stands as an example of normal everyday political life, even with such important personalities.

The reviews and memories of these formative moments from 1964 keep the history of Heidenheim alive. In December 2008, the idea was born at a festive evening in the locomotive shed to regularly refer to the events from the past. In this respect, there is a look at the events of 1964, which still have an impact on the city and always offer reason for new discussions.
