Mannheim, Deutschland - At the Mannheim district court, a murder trial against a couple from Sandhausen near Heidelberg began on Monday. The two 45-year-old wife and 43-year-old man are suspected of murdering a 27-year-old Ukrainian mother and her 51-year-old grandmother in March 2023. The motive for the crime was seen in an unfulfilled desire to have children, which supposedly wanted to spend the baby of the younger woman as her own.
The investigation showed that the accused was looking for specific contact with Ukrainian refugees and that a Telegram group joined to have discussions with expectant mothers. The two women lived in a refugee accommodation in the Rhein-Neckar district at the time of the crime. The crime occurred in March 2023, whereby the 27-year-old was found on March 7 on the banks of the Rhine near Hockenheim.
