Heidelberg: Commercial spots of the future - innovation and sustainability combined!

From October 7th to 9th, 2024, the real estate fair Expo Real took place in Munich, on which the city of Heidelberg, represented by the first mayor Jürgen Odszuck and other experts, presented its innovative projects. Together with 17 other cities, the "Heidelberg Team" set a sign of economic strength and future prospects in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region. The focus was on the two significant conversion areas: Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip) and the Patrick Henry Village (PHV).

The city of Heidelberg makes it clear that in urban development it focuses on innovation, sustainability and economy. These characteristics make the location for companies and residents attractive. Science and technology -oriented companies play an essential role. Odszuck underlined: "Heidelberg is not only a center for innovative urban development, but also a strong business location. Close networking within the industry is crucial in order to design sustainable growth and sustainable cities. With projects such as the Heidelberg Innovation Park or the further development of PHV, we offer a wide variety of companies innovative locations and future prospects."

Important developments in Heidelberg Innovation Park

The Heidelberg Innovation Park, developed on the site of the former Patton Barracks, becomes a hotspot for technology and science companies. The target industries are IT, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and life sciences. In the heart of the park, the LAB22 is being built, a modern building that was specially designed for biotech and life science companies. Start-ups and established companies will find flexible laboratory and office space here. The first European branch of the US incubator Biolabs is located there and offers important support to the start-ups. The inspiring campus design promotes the connection of work and leisure under the motto "Work Connected".

The Patrick Henry Village and Urban Mining

The Patrick Henry Village, as the largest conversion area in Heidelberg, will be expanded into the “knowledge city of tomorrow” in the next few years. An hour drive to Stuttgart or to Frankfurt Airport makes this location particularly attractive. The focus is on sustainability, circular economy and mobility transition, supported by the innovative concept of urban mining. This concept stipulates that over 300 buildings that are no longer used serve as valuable raw material stores for new construction projects. This pilot project "Circular City Heidelberg" analyzes old buildings in detail in order to identify the built -in materials and to promote them. A total of around 465,884 tons of building materials are available due to these demolition actions.

Another key project within the PHV is the multi -house, a versatile mobility hub, local supply, business and sport bundles. It not only offers a central P+R system, but also a living environment due to a variety of uses. Open space and social institutions are integrated into the planning to revitalize the neighborhood. An innovative commercial environment is created here, which designs the rush hour traffic and at the same time supports the low -car concept of the quarter.

Overall, Heidelberg's commitment to a balanced combination of tradition and innovation demonstrates. The city shows proactivity in response to current economic and ecological challenges and positions itself as a leading location for innovation in the Rhein-Neckar region. The city will support the emergence of this digital and sustainable infrastructure on its way to a dynamic business location.
