Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) was affected and spoke of a "terrible event" that happened in the middle of the contemplative Advent season, which is normally shaped by peace and community. In order to support the situation in Magdeburg, Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) immediately posted two trains with a total of almost 80 police officers. At the same time, he emphasized that the Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg are not canceled and continued under safe conditions.
