The city has prepared for the winter and is currently stored around 300 tons of road salt and 250 tons of string rapid. "We are constantly filling up if necessary," says Rittmann. The large clearing vehicles are ready to go in the halls, while smaller walkway vehicles are ready to move out immediately. The operations managers can carry out control trips at any time and alert the clearing columns. At the same time, everyday work such as tree care and the setting up of Christmas trees continue.

Not all streets are treated equally! Winter service works after three urgency levels, which are based on the traffic and dangerousness of the streets. "The main traffic axes have priority everywhere," explains Rittmann. Pedestrians and cyclists have to ensure their safety themselves, because the city cannot vacate anywhere at the same time. Carelessly parked cars can also make the work of the clearing vehicles more difficult.

The citizens are also responsible! Residents have to clear and scatter the sidewalks from Monday to Friday to 7 a.m., Saturdays until 8 a.m. and on Sundays and public holidays until 9 a.m. It is important not to use salt, but rather dull material such as grit or sand.
