The women's team rose to the highest women's class in 1949 and took an excellent 5th place in an indoor tournament in Münster in the same year. In the following years, BVB opened further successes, including participation in a prelude to the reigning German champion. In 1993 the team was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, followed by a sixth place in the league in 1994 and winning the DHB Cup.
