100 years of the OGV Enzkreis: Cheers and Green Thumbs in Remchingen!

The district association of the ENZKREAU/PHORZHEIM fruit and horticultural associations takes a special place in the state of Baden-Württemberg and celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The big anniversary celebration takes place in the Kulturhalle in Remchingen, where members and interested parties gather in order to take this remarkable occasion into account.

With around 6,000 members from 56 clubs, the district association is the second largest in all of Baden-Württemberg. This is an impressive number, considering that the Enzkreis itself is one of the smaller counties in the federal state. Despite its limited size, the region has ideal conditions for horticulture and agriculture, which are reflected in the variety of orchards, vegetable beds and ornamental gardens.

A look at the history of the district association

The origins of the association go back to 1922 when Rector Schlager brought the idea of a national association in Pforzheim. The district association was founded in autumn 1924 and has since had a long history of supporting city and local associations in the field of fruit and horticulture. In addition to promoting the member associations, the association plays an important role as a link to the state association for fruit growing, garden and landscape in Baden-Württemberg.

In the past 100 years, the association has launched many initiatives, including the organization of specialist lectures, competitions and cutting courses. A highlight of the club's history was the cherry exhibition from 1934, which not only increased the number of members of the association, but also raised awareness of the importance of fruit growing and sustainable gardening.

"The origin of our work lies in ensuring nutritional care for the population," explains Jürgen Metzger, who has been chairman of the district association for 22 years. "Today we also contribute to the conservation of valuable ecosystems and to promote biodiversity." These developments are particularly important in times when awareness of environmental protection and sustainable practices grows.

activities and commitment of the members

The members of the district association are deeply rooted in the events of the region and show great commitment to the community. In recent years, gardeners have become a popular hobby that appeals to people of all ages. Karen Prem, the volunteer of the association, reports: "Gardening is not only an excellent balance for body and mind, but also a way to actively do something for nature."

The events of the district association, such as the "Open Garden door" and regular seminar meetings, promote the exchange among the members. These community activities are central to the mission of the association, which always supports its members and emphasized the cooperation between the clubs.

Next Saturday, October 5, the anniversary is duly celebrated. The evening begins with a champagne reception, followed by varied program items, including greetings, reviews of the past hundred years and performances of youth groups. This ceremony is not only an occasion to celebrate, but also a way to honor the importance of the horticultural associations in the region.
