Verdi warning strike: Passengers in Baden-Württemberg have to expect failures!
Stuttgart, Deutschland - Warnstreks shakes local transport in Baden-Württemberg! The Verdi union has called for a dramatic two-day warning strike that has a massive impact on bus and train traffic. The SWEW (Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH) and the AVG (Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft) are particularly affected. According to a spokesman for the SWEW, passengers are already suffering from significant travel failures in many parts of the traffic area.
The strikes concern central regions, including the Rhein-Neckar area, Karlsruhe, Südbaden and Ulm-Oberschwaben. Verdi had referred to the serious disorders at the SWEW in advance, and the reality confirms these fears: in cities such as Weil am Rhein, Lörrach and Offenburg, city traffic stands still! Even train traffic in South Baden, such as on the Münstertalbahn, is affected and discontinued. The commuters are facing a chaos!
background of the strikes and demands
The reason for these massive protests are the tough collective bargaining for around 5,500 employees in six federal states. After the first round of negotiations, Verdi's positions and the employers' association still diverge widely. The next round of negotiations will take place on November 11th, and Verdi expects other serious failures.
While the AVG has only struggled with a few driving failures, the situation at the SWEW is a real disaster for the passengers. The warning strikes have already severely restricted the mobility of many people in the region!
