Cycling in Stuttgart: Korntal and Renningen set standards!

In the current ADAC test, which took a close look at the quality of the Bike+Ride facilities in Germany, the train stations in Korntal, Renningen and Ebersbach (Fils) show an impressive performance. They were awarded the top grade "very good". The positive aspects of this train stations are the excellent location directly at the accesses, modern equipment and high security standards. It should be emphasized that Korntal and Renningen are among the best of their kind not only in the region, but also throughout Germany. Here commuters benefit from spacious parking spaces and advanced theft protection systems.

On the other hand, Calw is as the bottom of the test with a terrifyingly bad rating. The bicycle parking spaces there consist only of outdated front wheel owners, which offer hardly the theft protection and are also known as "rim killers" in technical terms. These inadequate conditions led to a "very poor" assessment for Calw. The inadequate security infrastructure and the lack of modern equipment show that there is an urgent need for action.

call to improve the infrastructure

In view of the results, the ADAC calls for municipalities and operators to fundamentally optimize the bike+Ride infrastructure. Some recommendations have been made that are essential: for example, proximity to the station access should be guaranteed in order to enable commuters to quickly access. In addition, covered areas are essential to protect bicycles from the elements. A modern system that secures both the frame and the bikes is crucial for the safety of the bicycles. The implementation of lockable bicycle garages also increases security.

The initiative also includes innovative amenities such as charging options for e-bikes and lockers for personal objects, which significantly increases comfort for users and increases the attractiveness of the systems.

The test itself was carried out between April and June 2024, with a total of 80 plants in and around the ten largest German cities. The rated cities include Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. Within the test criteria, the location, the equipment, the free capacities and special features included in order to achieve representative results. The different reviews illustrate the differences between the locations and show where there are improvement options.
