Storm risk in Freiburg: Fire brigade in continuous use, caution!

In southwestern Germany, the situation remains calm after the storms, despite the previous warnings and stormy winds. The fire brigade in Freiburg and the surrounding region recorded only a few missions. "The situation is currently manageable," said a fire brigade spokesman in the morning.

In the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, the fire brigade only had to move out because of a fallen tree that had fallen on a house wall. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Furthermore, a total of six missions were reported in which trees fell on streets - two from the district and four from the Freiburg urban area. In fact, the impairment of the passage, despite partially blocked streets, was to be assessed as low.

Impairments in rail traffic

Despite the manageable location, there were disturbances in rail traffic, especially by the former hurricane "Kirk". The S-Bahn between Stuttgart-Vaihingen and Filderstadt had to be closed due to a damaged overhead line. Deutsche Bahn started a replacement bus traffic. There is also a tree on the tracks near Freudenstadt and there were individual driving failures.

The situation deteriorated in the early morning when several trees fell on lanes in the southwest. The police reported that the fire brigades in Freiburg and in Offenburg and the surrounding area were used in over 30 missions.

Meteorological warnings remain

The meteorologists of the DWD continue to warn of stormy gusts, which can be particularly intense, especially in the high layers of the Alps. Auf den höchsten Gipfeln wird sogar mit orkanartigen Böen aus südlichen Richtungen gerechnet. The police appeal to pedestrians and drivers to exercise the highest caution to avoid accidents from falling trees or falling branches.

From midday hours, however, a mitigation of the storm is expected. Instead, there should be rain showers and occasionally thunderstorms that continue until the night for Friday. According to the forecasts, the rain will gradually move south on Friday, so that longer sunny sections are also possible in Franconia.

In summary, it should be noted that despite the severe weather warnings and the impairments in rail traffic, the situation in southwest Germany was stable overall, without any significant injuries or damage.
