Staufen breathes on: New bypass brings relief and quality of life!

After a long waiting time of around six years, the time has finally come: The new Staufen bypass in Baden-Württemberg was officially opened for traffic! Ministerial director Berthold Frieß and the President of Freiburg Carsten Gabbert celebrated this significant moment, which the city of Staufen and its residents are supposed to free from unbearable through traffic, noise and exhaust gases.

"With this bypass, Staufen is relieved considerably," emphasized Frieß. The new street not only opens up the possibility of redesigning the center of town, but also promises a noticeable improvement in the quality of life for the residents. Gabbert added that the city now has the chance to further develop its charming town center and make it even more attractive. "We already have applications and are confident that the city can support the city in its plans," said Gabbert.

high investment for great effect

The cost of the approximately four kilometer bypass is a proud twelve million euros. The first plans for this relief road go back to the 1970s. After a lengthy planning approval procedure and approval, the construction of the first section began in September 2018, which was already handed over to traffic in November 2020. This brought a first relief for the residents and the strongly frequented passage through.

In order to fully implement the bypass, the second section with a length of 1.4 kilometers has been built since March 2024. Before the construction, archaeological excavations took place in 2023 to prepare the planned route. In addition, two walking and cycle path underpasses were built to secure the path connection for pedestrians and cyclists. The bypass will not only relieve traffic, but also significantly increase the quality of life in Staufen!
