Warning strikes in Böblingen: IG Metall demands 7% more wages!

Böblingen, Deutschland - The tariff round in the metal and electrical industry reaches its peak! With warning strikes, IG Metall sets a powerful sign and urgently demands an improvement in wages. In Böblingen the talks took place under the pressure of the strikes, and IG Metall district manager Barbara Resch left no doubt that the employer's previous offer did not even compensate for inflation. "We want a quick solution at the negotiating table," she emphasized, while 30,000 metallers all over the country will be raised by Thursday.

The employers, on the other hand, are unimpressed. Harald Marquardt, negotiator of the Südwestmetall employers' association, criticized the "saber rattling in front of the factory gates" and described the warning strikes as inappropriate. He awaits a big step towards employers from the union in the third round. However, the fronts are hardened: IG Metall demands seven percent more money nationwide for 3.9 million employees for one year, while employers only offer two increases of 1.7 and 1.9 percent over 27 months - the first stage only in July 2025.

negotiations in the focus

In the negotiations, approaches are now being sought. If a pilot district emerges, an agreement could be reached there. The regional area collective agreements include numerous key industries in German industry, including mechanical engineering and auto industry. Time is pushing and the tension increases while both sides hope for a compromise that could secure the future of the employees.
