Sindelfingen receives 4.2 million euros for safe cycle path underpass!
In a significant initiative to promote the cycling infrastructure, the city of Sindelfingen received the support of the federal and state governments for the construction of a new bike path underpass in the Sindelfingen-Ost industrial area. The funds of over 4.2 million euros should significantly increase the attractiveness and safety of cycling in the region.
President Susanne Bay said positively about the project and emphasized that the new bike path underpass would "create an even more attractive bicycle traffic infrastructure". The federal government contributes around 3.4 million euros, while the state is provided by the state of around 765,000 euros for funding. These investments are part of a larger plan to network and improve the existing bike paths.
Details on the new underpass
The bike path underpass, which has already been completed and was inaugurated at the end of June 2024, is an important connection for cyclists. It enables a safe crossing of the extended sword road that leads through a new roundabout. This traffic junction comes into play as part of the new construction of the Böblingen and Sindelfingen-Ost motorway trips.
With a length of about 95 meters and a width of 4 meters, the underpass is also illuminated and enables a seamless transition to the existing cycling infrastructure. This will not only increase security, but also the cycle path RS 1, which leads to Stuttgart, better tie it to the local infrastructure.
The funding amount is made up of two main sources: The state of Baden-Württemberg supported the measure with 765,450.76 euros from the State Community Transport Finance Act (LGVFG). This law aims to strengthen the municipal transport infrastructure and to close a incomplete cycling network. The other part of the financing of 3,444,528.44 euros comes from the special program "City and Country" of the federal government. This program pursues the goal of shifting traffic to environmentally friendly bike use.
The measure fits in the context of a comprehensive expansion of the cycle paths in the region and aims to create more secure and more attractive opportunities for cyclists. An investment in the bicycle infrastructure is not only advantageous for the environment, it also promotes the health and quality of life of the population.
