School path in danger: Malmsheimer Straße becomes a racetrack!

Harald Freiwald, concerned residents, raises the alarm: "There is a lot of quick driving here, and no authority takes care of it!" The street is the official way to school, but the dangers are omnipresent- especially when huge 40-tonneys rush past the small first and second graders!

The situation is dangerous: without cycle path and with a pedestrian traffic light that often does not work, Malmsheimer Straße is a playground for dangers. Freiwald informed the city administration, but the answer was sobering: "This is a case for the circle, and he doesn't want to hear it!" His proposal for a speed -dependent traffic light was simply ignored. Benjamin Lutsch, spokesman for the lower traffic authority, admits that the city has attached a railing to protect pedestrians and children, but that's not enough. "There are no prerequisites for a wheel protection strip," he explains. Instead, it is recommended to use the parallel roads - an insufficient solution for the safety of the children!

The city administration stimulated a speed reduction for Malmsheimer Straße in the traffic show at the beginning of October, but here there is no legal basis. "The traffic count shows that the way to school is not highly frequented," said the district office. Nevertheless, a new speed series is announced to check the safety of the school children. The concerned parents and residents hope for quick measures, because the safety of the children must come first!

Project "Attention, School Way!"

In cooperation with the CORRECTIV research network, the project was launched in order to check the safety of school routes in Stuttgart and in the district of Böblingen. Danger points could be documented via an online tool, and almost 300 messages have already been received. The aim is to reduce the hazards for students!
