Böblingen celebrates 500 years of peasant war: festival program on the market square!

In 2025, the peasant war, one of the most important uprisings in German history, will celebrate its 500th anniversary. In Böblingen, where a decisive battle took place on May 15, 1525, extensive preparations have already been made to duly appreciate this historical event. The uprising of the farmers, who was brutally put down, is not only viewed in the city from a historical perspective, but also staged artistically.

The Böblingen Peasant War Museum, which has been holding up the memory of these events for 40 years, will organize numerous events as part of an extensive program. This includes a conference that is carried out together with the Institute for Historical Studies at the University of Tübingen. This conference entitled "The Peasant War located" takes place on May 9th and 10th and is aimed at both experts and the general public. Here, new research results are to be presented in an understandable way. The start is a special exhibition entitled "An event and its faces".

theater and performances in the sign of the anniversary

A week after the conference, the State Museum Württemberg will stop at the theater performance "Uffrur ... on the road" on the Böblingen marketplace. This performance is listed at a total of 17 different locations and includes the respective historical contexts of the Peasant War to emotionally pack the audience.

The highlight of the festival year will represent the large theater production of the DAT art school in Böblingen. "The maid and the abbess - the history of a peasant uprising" are expected to be listed on a total of twelve dates on the marketplace at the end of July. This special staging will take place on up to five stages at the same time and offer an immersive and interactive experience that lets the audience immerse yourself in the middle of the action.

In addition, the Böblingen music school together with various clubs and schools will present the “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff in the congress hall, another cultural highlight that is connected to the anniversary.

Cultural Office Head Sven Reisch presented the extensive plans in the Administrative and Cultural Committee of the Böblingen municipal council. The program was very well received by the city councils, and the necessary financial resources have already been approved. The Peasant War Museum has planned a budget of 55,000 euros for the anniversary. For theater production in July, the DAT theater estimates costs of 75,000 euros. Here around 45,000 euros are to be covered by entrance fees and sponsorship, while the committee approved an additional one -time grant of 30,000 euros to support the project.
