Heavy rain sequences: Wirthshof separates from 69 permanent campers!

At the Wirthshof campsite in Markdorf, there are drastic changes. By the end of September, 114 permanent camper parking spaces were available for the loyal camper, but now the operator Claudius Wirth terminated a total of 69 parking spaces. This happened on September 30th and has already caused great excitement among the permanent campers concerned. "However, the dismissals were no alternative, we had no other choice," said Wirth in a conversation and emphasized the special urgency of the situation.

The background for this decision is a devastating heavy rain that hit the Wirthshof campsite on June 26 in addition to existing challenges. The square was flooded by the floods of the Muldenbach within a very short time, which led to considerable damage - the estimated costs amount to several hundred thousand euros. "We now only have 45 places for permanent campers and have to repair everything," explains Wirth. This has not only devastated the places, but also in danger of the economic existence of the company.

The economic consequences of the flood

The clean -up work after the storm is currently still in progress, but in order to be able to repair the places, temporary space for the parking spaces is essential. "We asked the permanent campers to clear their seats until mid -September, but they were able to park their caravans outside," Wirth describes the measures. In the coming months, the damaged parking spaces are to be brought to a higher standard- with comprehensive supply and disposal lines. Wirth hopes for a dry autumn to be able to complete the renovation by the 2025 season.

However, the insurance companies are covered. Wirth states that he initially did not expect the long -term camper until he learned that the insurance companies would only cover part of the loss costs. This leads to a considerable financial hole. "Of course there is also banks behind it," continued Wirth, which illustrates the scope of the situation.

The reactions of the permanent campers suffering under the circumstances are understandably emotional. For many of them, like Sebastian ProSser, the termination is a painful loss. "For me it looks like it was a found occasion to redesign the place to a concept in which we no longer have a place," says Proser, expressing his disappointment. The community in which everyone knows everyone is visibly affected by the decision and often does not feel valued.

The history of the permanent campers

So far, the season for a permanent place at the Wirthshof with 1,400 euros was far below the market average - campers in the area often pay twice. This made the Wirthshof particularly attractive, with many permanent campers remaining true to the corona pandemic and continuously paid their fees. "It was the permanent campers who kept paying their places during the Corona period," Tscho Müller from Switzerland describes the situation. For these loyal camper it is difficult to understand that the Wirthshof management is now changing the concept and apparently removing them from the plans.

The operator contradicts: "The prices for the permanent campers have not been increased for years, and we have always made annual contracts that tacitly extend without termination." Furthermore, Wirth admits that a tourism site usually brings a multiple of sales and sees itself in a difficult position to secure the economic load capacity of the company.

The previous positive atmosphere at Wirthshof has now received a heavy damper. Wirth himself regrets the reactions of the camper and recognizes the emotional loss. However, this situation also leads to questions of fairness and dealing with the community, which has contributed to the stability of the company for years. At a time when the ex-duration campers not only lost their places, but also their second home, a loss of trust and the possibility of a new beginning seems far away.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the future of the campsite will develop. While the season is to get back to the upcoming repair work, the former permanent campers cannot simply be put away from both financial and emotional perspective. It remains uncertain how the new structures will affect the overall dynamics of the camp without the long -standing campers.
