Young people shape the future: ideas and demands from Markdorf!

An exciting spectacle took place on November 7, 2024 in Markdorf when around 60 young people from the Lake Constance district came together for the third district youth conference! In the modern auditorium of the education center, they had the unique opportunity to speak directly to District Administrator Luca Wilhelm Prayon, several mayors and district councilors. This event, organized by the district youth council and the youth department of the district office, offered the young people between the ages of 14 and 21 a platform to raise their voices and present their concerns.

District Administrator Prayon asked the young people to think courageously and creatively: "If you don't do that, who should do it?" He emphasized the importance of political participation for the future and encouraged the participants to actively contribute to local politics. The theme islands of the conference reflected the focus of the district council, including local transport, social affairs, environment and finance. In exciting tandem discussions with adults, the young people were informed about current challenges and were then able to express their ideas and wishes.

The young people had clear ideas: they called for improvements in local transport, the use of artificial intelligence in schools as well as measures for environmental protection and support for mental health. The traceability of political decisions was also particularly important to them. The conference ended with a lively discussion in which not only serious topics were dealt with, but also a lot was laughed. The results collected are now being processed together with the district youth council.

This conference was the third of its kind in the Lake Constance district, after the events in 2015 and 2019. The district youth council, which has existed since 2023, is the first youth parliament at district level in Baden-Württemberg and offers young people a strong voice in politics.
