Liebherr Ochsenhausen starts again short -time work: construction crisis meets hard!

A new blow for the employees of the Liebherr plant in Ochsenhausen! After the temporary exit from the short -time work at the beginning of this year, the company will now go into short work from November 2024. This decision is a direct consequence of the ongoing crisis in the construction and housing industry, which also affects the Liebherr Group. According to a spokeswoman for the work, this measure affects the entire workforce, whereby the exact scope will vary depending on the work area and work profile.

The situation is alarming! While the location suffered from the "cooled economy in certain areas of the construction sector" last year, the current situation shows that the challenges are far from overcome. Around 1350 employees have to prepare for temporary short -time work from October 2023 to March 2024. The IG Metall union estimates the situation as "constant", but the uncertainty remains. Christian Velsink, the second representative of IG Metall Ulm, reports that in the region between 12 and 14 companies of around 100 are in short -time work, but the scope is often "not dramatic" - a weak consolation for the employees.

Economic uncertainty draws circles

The effects of the construction crisis are devastating! Velsink warns that companies that are strongly on the construction industry, like Liebherr home equipment, are most affected. "If no new houses or apartments are built, people don't buy new kitchens and therefore no new refrigerators," he explains. This link between construction industry and consumption shows how deeply the crisis intervenes in the companies. The union expects that more and more companies in the industry are forced to use short -time work in order to adapt their capacities to the declining demand.
