Inclusion in Heilbronn-Biberach: Schools fight for equal opportunities!

In the Heilbronn-Biberach primary school, the topic of inclusion becomes a challenge! Rector Sabine Görmez is passionate about the joint schooling of all children, whether with or without disabilities. "We want to promote all children, absolutely," she emphasizes. But reality looks different: school reaches its limits and cannot meet all needs. Alarm bells ring not only in Biberach, but also in other schools in the region.

The situation is precarious! Of almost 190 students, 45 have special needs, and only ten of them are a special educator available for one hour a week. "You don't get far with an hour," says Görmez. The primary school demands an additional outdoor class with a specialized special educator to offer the children the support they urgently need. Positive signals from the State School Authority in Heilbronn give hope: "A cooperative form of organization can be a good solution," says Office Head Markus Wenz.

a great suffering for everyone involved

Frustration among the teachers grows! They feel overwhelmed because they cannot do justice to all students. "Inclusion is currently associated with great suffering," says Görmez. Parents support the desire for a special outdoor class, since the children do not receive the support that they are entitled to. "The children do not get what they are entitled to," criticizes Viviane Kalisch, chair of the Heilbronner overall parish council. The long bus trip to special educational and advisory centers (SBBZ) represents an additional burden for many families.

The Union Education and Science (GEW) also warns: The quality of inclusion depends on the existing resources. "At least ten hours of special education per week are necessary," says GEW spokesman Harald Schröder. Markus Wenz from the school office admits that the personnel situation is tense and solutions are urgently needed. Time is urged, because educational justice for all children must be guaranteed!
