From Ellwangen to Nanjing: Mario May's adventure in China!

Mario May, a 25-year-old graduate, caused a sensation with his stay in Nanjing, China! Two years ago, he wanted to start the "IPF and Jagst-Zeitung" as a freelancer, but his study abroad led him to the distance. There was “Fernostalb - from Ellwangen to Nanjing”, a captivating series of diary about his experiences in China. After a year and a half full of adventure, he is now back in Eggenrot and ready to share his stories!

On November 22nd at 7 p.m. May will give a lecture in the village house that takes the audience into the fascinating world of China. With a master's degree in intercultural German studies in his pocket, he plans to do a doctorate and dreams of returning to China. "Life in China has broadly expanded my horizon," he explains, while talking about the challenges of Chinese learning. "Without Chinese you are pretty stuck on site!"

Insights into the Chinese campus

May describes campus life in Nanjing as a "mini city" with everything you need-from supermarkets to sports facilities. With 25,000 to 30,000 students, the University of Nanjing is a real educational metropolis! "That is more than Ellwangen's residents," he smiles. He not only acquired a master in Göttingen and Nanjing, but also built a strong network that could help him in the future.

His enthusiasm for Chinese culture is obvious. "I brought a lot of tea with me and now listen to more Chinese music," he says. But he is also aware of the challenges of the political situation in China. "As a foreigner, nobody wants to talk to you about politics, but the presence is omnipresent," he explains. Despite the strict regulations, he enjoyed security and the pleasant atmosphere in the clubs. "Work Hard, Play Hard" - that's his motto! While he reports on his experiences, it becomes clear: China is more than just a country for him - it has become a second home!
