Trucker gifts for Christmas: Rotary clubs show appreciation!

Christmas time is a contemplative time for many, but for numerous trucker drivers who often spend night breaks on rest areas, it can be particularly challenging. For this reason, various Rotary clubs in Baden-Württemberg have come together to give drivers a little pleasure.

The Rotary Club Aalen-Heidenheim distributed gift packages to trucker drivers on the Autohof Nattheim and the Lonetal rest area on the A 7 on Christmas Eve. This campaign took place for the second time under the organization of Rotarian President Xaver Metzger. Over 20 Rotary clubs in the region took part in this nationwide initiative. The gift packages, which were compiled in advance in the freight forwarder in Aalen, contained sweets, drinks and hearty snacks. Many of the Eastern European drivers were initially skeptical, but were happy about the gifts after personal conversations.

In addition to the activities in Aalen-Heidenheim, the Rotary Clubs Pforzheim-Schloßberg, Pforzheim-Schwarzwald and other members of the Rotary Club Mühlacker-Enzkreis packed a total of 180 gift bags, which are distributed at rest areas in the region over the Christmas season. In addition to sweets, these bags also contain toilet items, easy -to -use meals and non -alcoholic drinks. The financing of these actions either came from the Rotarians or was guaranteed by donations in kind.

The main goal of these actions is to give the professionals who have to spend their holidays away from their families and thank them for their contribution to the care of society. This campaign was successfully carried out last year, so that the number of participants was increased this year. In addition, the handover of the bags at the rest areas also promotes personal conversations and friendly encounters between the drivers and the Rotarians, which makes these initiatives a valuable tradition for the community.

The Rotarians continue to visit rest areas in Herbrechtingen, Ellwangen and Ellwanger mountains. Around 100 gift packages were distributed in just two hours, which is seen by President Xaver Metzger as a positive record of the campaign. Drivers from various nationalities, including Uzbekistan, Chadschikistan, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania, Sri Lanka and Ghana, took part in this initiative and were able to look forward to the appreciation that was shown to them.

These actions represent an important sign of recognition for the work of the trucker drivers and help to strengthen the sense of community among the Rotary clubs.
