Brenzbahn expansion: Half-hourly cycle for Heidenheim-this is how travelers benefit!

The expansion of the Brenzbahn in Baden-Württemberg takes concrete forms. The aim of the project is to enable a half -hourly cycle between Ulm and Aalen. It is planned that the regional railway should commute every 30 minutes. In the future, the interregio will run every hour instead of every two hours as before. In addition, an S-Bahn line between Ulm and Sontheim as well as between Heidenheim and Aalen will run in the semi-hourly time, such as hz.de reported.

The Free Voter Group in the district council made an application to examine a connection between these two lines. This would enable rail travelers in Heidenheim and Giengen to get three times an hour. District Administrator Peter Polta informed about the examination by train experts, who require a two -track of 36 kilometers for a continuous half -hourly cycle. The estimated additional costs for the expansion amount to 243 million euros, which would result in the total project costs by the end of August 2024.

financing details and responsibilities

For the construction of six kilometers between Heidenheim and Herbrechtingen, 108 million euros are estimated. In addition, a new track between Langenau and Rammingen with an estimated cost of 50 million euros is required. Overall, the planning costs are over 50 million euros, while the electrification of the additional tracks costs 22 million euros. According to train experts, the total costs amount to 246 million euros. District Administrator Polta, however, expressed skepticism about planning and also considers costs of 50 to 60 million euros to be likely.

The district of Heidenheim provides two million euros for 2025, but only on the condition that the country pays 50 percent of the planning costs. The Ostalb district also remains on board the project despite its financial situation. The Ulm municipal council is scheduled to release money in February, while the Alb-Donau district provides 667,000 euros for the first package, but without taking into account the electrification. The Alb-Donau district suggests that Langenau and Rammingen cover two thirds of the costs. In this context, there is a financing risk of around 600,000 euros from the Alb-Donau district. The district council must decide on the financing gap in May, while the financing planning is to be completed in summer.

In addition, the Regio S-Bahn Donau-Diller is planning new stops as well as expansion sections and electrifies, as the
