Aalen plans comprehensive integration for 1,549 refugees - that's how it works!

The world is facing an unprecedented refugee crisis! From 2026, the city of Aalen will have to adjust to a massive increase in refugees after the LEA privilege is no longer necessary. In a heated meeting of the local council, the urgency of the situation became clear: Aalen not only wants to take out refugee people, but also integrate them well!

Currently 1,549 refugees in Aalen, with the majority of Ukraine. The city administration plans a uniform distribution of newcomers to promote social integration. The forecasts for 2026 are alarming: between 188 and 306 new refugees are expected! So the city has to prepare for a big challenge.

Three-stage recording system and new strategies

The three-stage recording system in Baden-Württemberg stipulates that the initial reception takes place in special facilities. Aalen becomes active in the third stage, the follow -up accommodation. The city plans to transfer responsibility for the accommodation from the social welfare office to the integration office in order to optimize the processes. In addition, the municipal housing association will play a key role to create suitable living space for the refugees.

The city administration has already planned 40,000 euros for new software for accommodation management and another 170,000 euros for housing tasks. These measures are crucial to support the integration of the 665 people in integration management and the expected newcomers. Aalen faces a huge task, and the city administration is determined to accept this challenge!
